American news-based pay television channel owned by Turner Broadcasting System Cable News Network (CNN), got the attention of Nigerians, following a recent caption it gave to a photo it shared which was interpreted as a shade for President Buhari and Atiku Abubakar.
The alleged shade post for Buhari and Atiku which CNN shared, came with the caption; “Meet Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar: the old men vying to lead Nigeria, Africa’s youngest youth population”.
However reacting to this, Nigerians pointed out the American news platform’s hypocrisy in turning a blind eye on Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump’s age.
In the article, CNN said, ‘not much separates the two front-runners contesting Nigeria’s presidential election. Both are men in their 70s with previous experience of high-level politics. Both are from the same ethnic group. And both are Muslims from the north of the country. Although they share demographic similarities, ideologically, the two men are opposed’.

Here are reactions to the tweet;
“I have dared people publicly…if anybody has any evidence of corruption against me, let him come out. I’ve never been found wanting.But people will always accuse you,” says @atiku about corruption allegations that have dogged his presidential campaign https://t.co/LjcFtMOVS4

I like you guys but is President Trump a young man? Abeg check yourself before you point fingers at others.

While we must make room for young people to attain leadership positions, we know that the REAL issue in leadership isn’t about age. There’s room for both young and old, male and female. And @CNNAfrica, maybe you should first have looked in the mirror…

It is irresponsible for a media organisation like CNN to come up with such an irresponsible title. We need not remind you that your HQ is in a country that has a 74 year old man as president. Truly, you are gradually becoming a disgrace to journalism.

To be fair, though, @realDonaldTrump is 74 times more functional than @MBuhari. Trump held more than 5 press conferences just during the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation saga alone. Buhari hasn’t done 5 press conferences in his 4 years in office, preferring to talk only when abroad.

Isn’t your president 72years older than the proposed Mexico wall he’s fighting hard to construct ?

What CNN is simply reminding us is both old cargo is the best Nigeria can offer amongst million of well educated fine young people you tell me that we’re not gullible!
